This 990 hp Chinese SUV Could Shake Up the Global Electric Vehicle Market
The Xiaomi YU7 GT electric SUV arrives with nearly 1,000 hp, an estimated price around $70k, and customization options, putting pressure on global rivals.
The Xiaomi YU7 GT is China’s latest development in the high-performance electric SUV domain. The vehicle promises nearly 1,000 hp in a dual-motor configuration, boosting the Asian giant’s output on the global stage.
According to information from CarNewsChina, the YU7 GT, the performance variant of the YU7, utilizes a two-motor powertrain. The front motor produces 288 kW (386 hp) and the rear motor delivers 450 kW (603 hp), totaling an output of approximately 990 hp, with a top speed of up to 300 km/h.
Visually, the YU7 GT’s aesthetic package is compared to the Ferrari Purosangue, while the front end recalls the McLaren 750S. At the rear, the car features a full-width LED light bar and the GT badge to emphasize its high-performance orientation. According to MIIT records, the car is expected to offer extensive customization, including decals and various color options for the brake calipers.
Xiaomi already sells the SU7 Ultra, an electric sedan with up to 1,527 hp. However, with SUVs dominating global demand, the YU7 GT could have a greater impact. It is worth noting that sales of the SU7 Ultra declined last year, with only 45 units sold in December 2025.
Price and Geographic Reach
Speculation suggests the YU7 GT should fall in the range of 450,000 to 500,000 yuan (approximately $65k to $72k at the current exchange rate). At this level, it would position itself below rivals like the Porsche Macan EV and the Tesla Model X in practice, albeit with significantly higher stated power.
Global Market and Pressure on Traditional Automakers
Although the YU7 GT is unlikely to arrive in the US anytime soon, the presence of Chinese EVs in export markets like Europe and Mexico is already forcing traditional automakers to adapt to maintain competitiveness. This scenario could benefit the consumer by encouraging models with more aggressive pricing, longer ranges, and sharper performance.
Xiaomi’s focus on electric SUVs reinforces the trend of Chinese vehicle exports. The YU7 GT appears as a central piece of a strategy that already includes other powerful models in the brand’s portfolio, increasing the weight of the Chinese automotive industry in the global market.
